Starting from grass roots and humble beginnings, brothers Les and Ron Coleman opened their first shop in North London on the 1st of April 1957 due to the growing demand for wallpaper and DIY materials at the time.
After the success of their first shop, 2 more shops were opened in the surrounding areas of North London. (Woodgreen and Haringey).
By the mid 60's Coleman Bros. was a thriving business employing over 12 full time employees, pictured is John Davis trimming Wallpaper, every roll in those days had to be hand trimmed before hanging.
The wholesale side of the business continued to expand rapidly, allowing us to increase our fleet of vans and we started a national distribution service using Securicor, one of the first national couriers. The company outgrew the old warehouse site in Edmonton, so we purchased a site in Cheshunt and built what we have today.
First ever delivery into the Cheshunt Warehouse, a box of Mayfair Wallpaper, unloaded by Ray Coleman.
Early 80s we installed a state-of-the-art computer system.
Mid 80s we embarked on an extension to the office, pictured with an array of 80s cars on show.
We launched our Freephone number in the late 80s.

That today remains the number to contact our sales office.
In the 90s we purchased an Artic Lorry to link our other warehouses that we had opened late 80s (Leeds and Leicester) at this stage we had in excess of 20 delivery vans.
Mid-90s – Ron and Les Coleman retired. David Smith, Robert Coleman and Ray Coleman, became joint Directors.
In the early 00’s we opened 3 Trade Centres situated in Cheshunt, Leeds and Bishop Stortford, above picture is the 3 Trade Centre Managers, Left to Right, Ian Woodall, Ali Guy and Matt Coleman.
Colemans continued to supply Wallpaper with Sophie Coleman having new fresh ideas and designs, and Matthew Coleman has developed a new division supplying sundries items nationally.
Now in our 64th year, Coleman's are proud to still be a family run business, with good values and the personal touch to customers, employing local people, many who have worked for the company for 30 years plus.
